Cysts in the ovaries are fluid-filled sacs that often develop spontaneously. Sometimes ovarian cysts develop due to other conditions like endometriosis or polycystic ovarian syndrome. Most of the ovarian cysts that occur in the reproductive age are benign, and some will disappear on their own without treatment.
The most common symptom of ovarian cyst is pain. Occasionally ovarian cysts can rupture or bleed into it or cause torsion of the ovary. These are known as ‘ovarian cyst accidents’ and may cause significant pain requiring emergency surgery.
We offer laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery for majority of ovarian cysts that require surgery. This allows you to recover quicker, with minimal scarring of the surgical wound.
