A cystoscopy is a procedure to directly visualise and examine the inside of the womb using a small telescope (cystoscope). The telescope is passed into the bladder through the neck of the bladder. Biopsies from the bladder can be taken at the same time if required.

The procedure takes about 5 -15 minutes.

The risks of the procedure are small and include (but not limited to) infection, bleeding and making a hole in the bladder.

Majority of women experience only mild discomfort or stinging when passing urine for the first time after the procedure.
